The Apostle James, the son of Alphaeus, was the brother of the Apostle Matthew. From Jerusalem after Pentecost, his lot fell to preach the Gospel of Christ in the city of Eleutheropolis in Gaza and the surrounding regions. And after that to go to Egypt. He was martyred in the Egyptian city of Ostracina, east of the Nile delta, by pagans who crucified him there.
